Big Improvements to Our Site – Here’s What’s New!

Top Site Design Improvements at bogoworkshop – Real Fixes, Real Story

We’ve just rolled out a wave of major site design improvements across bogoworkshop. From mobile upgrades to faster browsing and cleaner product displays, this update was all about making your experience smoother and more enjoyable. And yes — it came with real challenges, some unexpected bugs, and a bit of help from AI.

✅ What’s New: Our Latest Site Design Improvements

Cleaner, Faster Design

We improved layout structure, cleaned up spacing, and simplified font styles to speed up page load time and improve readability. Everything feels tighter, crisper, and more consistent from page to page.

Better Mobile Experience

One of the key site design improvements was focused on mobile usability. We adjusted image sizes, tap areas, and responsive behavior so the site actually works — and looks good — on all screen sizes.

Smarter Product Listings

We redesigned product cards for visual consistency. You’ll now find properly scaled thumbnails, centered titles, and consistent buttons — whether you’re browsing violin bridges or cello tailpieces.

Refined Cart & Checkout

We rebuilt the cart area with clearer subtotal and shipping blocks, sharper buttons, and mobile-friendly fields. Checkout is now less cluttered and easier to follow from start to finish.

More Modern Styling

Subtle but important style changes were made across the board: new icons, consistent button heights, aligned forms, and a more unified visual identity that reflects the care behind our handmade products.

⚙️ Real Challenges: What It’s Like Updating a Live Site

Behind these site design improvements was a fair amount of struggle. Real talk:

  • CSS that worked fine in testing broke on mobile.
  • Safari caused mysterious layout shifts. Again.
  • Forms wouldn’t align across screen sizes without hours of tweaking.
  • Cache layers kept showing old versions — no matter how many times we hit refresh.
  • And sometimes, fixing a 2px shift meant rewriting 20 lines of CSS.

That’s what it’s like working on a live WooCommerce site — you fix one thing, and another moves out of place. But we pushed through every bug and misalignment to deliver something that feels clean, modern, and reliable.

👨‍🔧 A Personal Note from Behind the Curtain

We don’t have a design agency or a full-stack dev team behind us. These site design improvements were done solo — by the one-man band behind bogoworkshop.

I haven’t worked in active frontend development or UX design for over 12 years. But I decided to jump back in, telling myself: “I can take a look.” And I did — for every broken button, every misaligned block, every CSS rule that didn’t behave.

I also had some help from ChatGPT. He was fast — sometimes annoyingly so — but not always accurate. Some of the code was broken or didn’t work at all. Still, ChatGPT saved hours by helping me troubleshoot ideas faster than I could alone.

This redesign wasn’t polished in a boardroom. It was tested at midnight, rolled back after crashes, and fine-tuned with care — just like our products. Thanks for sticking around through it.

💡 Why These Improvements Matter

At bogoworkshop, your experience matters as much as our craft. We believe thoughtful site design improvements help build trust, reduce friction, and make shopping feel as good as unboxing.

These changes are part of our commitment to continuously improve. Whether you’re browsing bridges or checking out with accessories, we want it to feel simple, beautiful, and easy.

🚀 What’s Next?

This update is just the beginning. Here’s what’s coming soon:

  • Mobile filter redesign and faster search experience
  • Comparison tools for violin bridges and tailpieces
  • New product guides for beginners and pros

Have feedback? Spot a bug? Let us know. Every suggestion helps us grow.

Thanks for being part of bogoworkshop. These site design improvements were built with love, code, and a lot of coffee. 💛

Streamlined Bridge Listings for String Instruments

Streamlined Bridge Listings for String Instruments

🎯 Streamlined Bridge Listings are now live at bogoworkshop! All violin, viola, cello, and bass bridge sizes are unified under clean product pages—making your browsing faster, simpler, and more intuitive.

Streamlined Bridge Listings are here to improve how musicians, students, and luthiers shop for violin, viola, cello, and double bass bridges at bogoworkshop. Previously, each bridge size—quarter, half, three-quarter, and 4/4—had its own product page. Now, we’ve simplified everything into clean, single listings where you can choose your size directly from a dropdown menu. Less clutter, faster choices, and a smoother experience all around.

This update was built from direct feedback and real-world SEO insights. Not only is the new structure easier to navigate, but it also helps customers compare models, materials, and fitting services without hopping between pages.

✅ What’s New?

  • 📦 All sizes grouped under one model listing (¼, half, ¾, 4/4)
  • 🪵 Clear dropdowns for wood type, size, and customization
  • 🎯 Improved images, descriptions, and selection process
  • 🛒 One-page ordering without extra clicks or confusion

🎻 A More Efficient Way to Shop

Whether you’re a professional luthier working with a variety of instruments, or a student player needing a new bridge fast, the new layout makes it easy to find exactly what you need. You can:

  • ✔️ Compare sizes without leaving the page
  • ✔️ See all customization options at once
  • ✔️ Quickly select the right fit for your instrument

The new Streamlined Bridge Listings system also improves search speed and mobile navigation. It’s optimized for every device, ensuring you get a frictionless experience from start to finish.

💬 Built From Customer Feedback

This change was driven by our customers. Musicians, teachers, and luthiers told us they wanted faster access, fewer pages to navigate, and more clarity in the buying process. We listened—and we delivered.

Why We Switched to 3D Product Renders

Why We Switched to 3D Product Renders – A Smarter Visual Upgrade at bogoworkshop

At bogoworkshop, we’ve always been focused on detail. Every bridge, thumb rest, or accessory we make for violin, cello, and bass is crafted with care. But one thing was slowing us down: product photography.

In 2025, we’ve made a major shift — we’ve stopped using photos altogether. We now represent all of our parts using high-resolution 3D product renders. These digitally generated models allow us to show exactly what you’ll get, without the lighting issues, editing, or endless reshoots of traditional photography.

📸 Why We Moved Away from Product Photography

Shooting images of small accessories like violin bridges or bass ramps is incredibly time-consuming. You need perfect lighting, a neutral background, accurate color balance, and lots of editing. Even then, most shots didn’t fully capture the grain, the shape, or the precise contours that matter in lutherie work.

We found ourselves wasting hours per item — only to get 2 or 3 usable images. It was frustrating, inefficient, and honestly didn’t reflect the precision of our products. So we stopped. Instead, we now rely entirely on custom-rendered 3D models built from real-world measurements and specifications.

🖥️ The Benefits of 3D Product Renders

Our new workflow centers on clarity, accuracy, and speed. With 3D product renders, we can show surface textures, tonewood patterns, edge bevels, and profile dimensions far more clearly than with a photo.

  • ✅ Consistent lighting across all images
  • ✅ Precise proportions and perspective
  • ✅ Accurate tonewood colors and textures
  • ✅ Faster to produce and update

We now use Blender and other modeling tools to visualize our product designs before they’re even physically cut — which also helps us speed up prototyping and customer-specific modifications.

🎨 Real Examples of Our New Renders

Here are examples of what our 3D product renders look like in use. These images now appear across our store and blog content:

🛠️ Handmade First — Digitally Shown

Just to be clear: we still make everything by hand. The only thing that’s changed is how we show it. These 3D product renders help us better communicate the shape, scale, and quality of what we build.

With more consistency in product visuals, we can also launch new models faster and support our customers more efficiently. We no longer delay releases waiting for the “perfect photo.” We render it right, right away.

📬 Want to Know More?

If you’re curious about how we create our renders, or if you want a custom view of a specific model, contact us. We’re happy to provide rotated views, scale comparisons, and advice on fit and installation.

Thanks for being part of our visual evolution. We’ll keep crafting great accessories — and now we’ll show them with the detail they deserve.

Custom Order Policy Update – New Regulations for Accuracy and Delivery

Custom Order Policy Update – Accurate Measurements & Delivery Rules

As of July 2025, bogoworkshop is introducing a custom order policy update to resolve frequent problems with inaccurate measurements and recurring delivery issues. These changes are essential to support a sustainable handmade workflow and reduce avoidable costs caused by customer error.

📏 Measurement Guidelines – Part of Our Custom Order Policy Update

We specialize in small, precision-made parts — such as violin bridges, thumb rests, and saddles — where even a 1mm error can lead to a poor fit. Unfortunately, we’ve received too many orders based on imprecise measurements, some off by 3 to 5mm.

Previously, we remade these items at our own cost. But with growing losses and increased demand, this is no longer sustainable. Effective immediately:

Orders based on inaccurate or approximate measurements will be considered Completed Orders. We will not offer refunds or free redos due to measurement mistakes by the customer.

To prevent problems, always double-check your measurements. If unsure, refer to our FAQ page or contact us before ordering.

📦 Shipping Disputes and Delivery Confirmation

In the past few months, we’ve seen more shipping-related problems, mostly involving customers in the UK and Ireland:

  • Tracking shows the package was delivered — but the customer claims it was not received
  • Packages returned due to non-collection or refusal by the customer

In many of these cases, we resent the item or covered high return costs — only to have the same issue occur again.

Moving forward, any package marked as “Delivered” or “Returned” in the official tracking will be treated as a Completed Order.

All our shipments include tracking. If delivery issues arise, we urge you to monitor the provided tracking ID or contact your local post service such as Royal Mail.

📊 Example: How a Simple Order Becomes a Loss

  • Original order: Custom thumb rest – €20 + €8 shipping = €28
  • Cost to us (production + shipping): €15

If the customer doesn’t receive the package and we resend it:

  • Another €15 spent
  • Total loss: €2

If the package is returned due to non-collection, we often pay a €25 return fee, bringing the total loss to over €40 on a single €28 order. These are real numbers — and they happen too often.

🎯 Summary of the Custom Order Policy Update

  • Inaccurate customer measurements → order considered fulfilled
  • Returned or delivered packages → order closed with no refund
  • Custom-made items are non-refundable after production starts
  • All costs caused by customer error require a new order

🛠️ Why This Policy Is Needed

This custom order policy update is about protecting our team, our process, and our ability to keep prices fair for everyone. All our parts are still handmade — we simply ask for accurate info and fair communication in return.

We remain available for help before any order is placed. Measure carefully. Track your shipments. And don’t hesitate to reach out before production begins.

We appreciate your trust and your understanding as we continue to build reliable accessories for violin, cello, and bass — one part at a time.

Custom Thumb Rest for Bass – New Designs & Ramp Upgrades

Custom Thumb Rest for Bass – New Designs & Bass Ramp Upgrades

At bogoworkshop, we’re proud to announce a major upgrade to our line of handcrafted bass accessories — with an expanded range of custom thumb rest for bass models and integrated bass ramp styles. Whether you’re a modern player or vintage bass lover, our new lineup is here to improve feel, tone, and control.

🎯 Why Upgrade Your Thumb Rest or Bass Ramp?

Every bassist has their own approach — fingerstyle, slap, hybrid — and factory thumb rests often don’t support the subtle nuance and comfort needed. Our custom thumb rests for bass and matching bass ramps provide:

  • 🧩 More accurate right-hand positioning
  • 🎵 Balanced string-to-string articulation
  • 🖐️ Reduced tension in thumb and wrist
  • 🎸 More expressive tone control

These changes may seem small — but the feel is immediate.

🆕 New Models and Visual Updates

Our summer 2025 update introduces new variations made specifically for popular bass models like Yamaha TRB, Sire Marcus Miller, Fender Precision, and Strandberg TT. Each accessory is now modeled using 3D render visualization instead of studio photography, giving you a clearer and more reliable view of your part before you buy.

All items are designed and rendered in-house — based on real bass body scans and CAD references — so you can get a true idea of fit and look.

🪵 Materials & Fitting Options

All of our bass ramps and thumb rests are made from selected hardwoods treated for color consistency and strength. Because of rising prices in exotic woods, we now also use high-grade bleached or stained tonewoods to match the visual tones of:

  • Ebony (dark stained hardwood)
  • Rosewood (warm reddish tones)
  • Maple (light, natural finish)
  • Hybrid multi-laminate styles (for contrast or layered builds)

This approach maintains high structural quality while offering a wide palette of aesthetic options for modern or vintage-style basses.

You can choose between flat mounting surfaces or subtle finger-contour profiles, depending on your technique and ergonomic needs.

📐 How to Order Your Custom Thumb Rest for Bass

Most of our thumb rests are made to order based on the body type or fingerboard radius. You’ll be prompted to provide simple measurements or model info at checkout.

If you’re unsure, check out our FAQ or drop us a message through our contact page. We’re happy to guide you through sizing and compatibility — especially for more unique bass body shapes.

📦 Shipping & Fit Guarantee

All products are individually inspected and rendered before production. In most cases, your custom bass ramp or thumb rest ships within 3–5 business days.

We also offer discounts on combo orders — bass ramps + thumb rests — for multi-string basses or dual pickup configurations.

🔁 Better Playing. Better Control.

Thousands of bassists — from hobbyists to professionals — have made the switch to ergonomic thumb rest upgrades. And now with our latest custom thumb rest for bass designs and bass ramp models, it’s easier than ever to make the right choice.

Explore the full collection in our Bass Accessories section and feel the difference in your next session or gig.

Fender Aerodyne Bass: Custom Thumb Rests for a Satisfied Customer

We are thrilled to announce the satisfaction of our valued customer, Michael from the UK, who recently received a specially designed Thumb rest for his Fender Aerodyne Bass Guitar made in Japan back in 2005. Our collaboration with Michael involved several email exchanges to discuss dimensions and desired features, resulting in the creation of more than 30 unique Thumb rest models. However, Michael had a unique vision, and we gladly followed his lead, developing two distinct Thumb rest variations for his Fender Aerodyne Bass made in Japan, differing in height with options at 6mm and 8mm.

We are grateful to Fender Michael for generously sharing images showcasing the installed Thumb rest, providing a visual testament to the exceptional craftsmanship achieved. You can view the images.
